Chhava Becomes a Box Office Sensation

Chhava Movie Review

Vicky Kaushal’s latest film, Chhava, created waves upon its release on Friday, quickly winning audiences’ hearts. The overwhelming response during the opening weekend left trade analysts astonished, as the film drew massive crowds to theaters.

A Power-Packed Performance by Vicky Kaushal

Even before its release, Chhava generated excitement through its teasers and trailers, showcasing Vicky’s powerful portrayal of Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj. The film’s songs and promotional events further boosted anticipation, and the strong word-of-mouth publicity significantly amplified its box office success.

Crossing ₹100 Crore in Just Three Days

Chhava opened with a staggering ₹33.10 crore on Friday, setting the stage for a record-breaking performance. The positive buzz fueled rapid growth over the next two days. On Saturday, the film collected over ₹39 crore, followed by a remarkable 25% jump on Sunday, with collections touching ₹49 crore.

With a total weekend collection surpassing ₹121 crore, Chhava has become Vicky Kaushal’s highest-opening film. Previously, his biggest weekend grosser was Uri: The Surgical Strike, which earned ₹36 crore in its first weekend. Remarkably, Chhava has almost matched the lifetime earnings of Raazi (₹123 crore) in just three days, and it is expected to surpass that milestone by Monday.

Leading the Historical Genre in Bollywood

When discussing historical epics in Bollywood, Padmaavat, starring Deepika Padukone, Ranveer Singh, and Shahid Kapoor, stands as a benchmark, having earned over ₹300 crore in total. Padmaavat collected ₹114 crore in its extended four-day opening weekend.

In comparison, Chhava amassed ₹121 crore in just three days, outperforming Padmaavat‘s weekend collection despite having one day less in its count. This achievement highlights the immense popularity and audience craze surrounding Vicky Kaushal’s film.

Bollywood’s First Blockbuster of 2025

Chhava’s Sunday collection of ₹49 crore is the highest single-day earnings for any Bollywood film this year. With its current momentum, the film is set to cross even bigger milestones.

So far, the highest-grossing Bollywood film of 2025 has been Akshay Kumar’s Sky Force, which collected ₹130 crore in total, with a weekend earnings of ₹73 crore. Chhava has already outperformed Sky Force’s weekend numbers by a significant margin and is expected to surpass its overall collection soon.

With no major Bollywood releases lined up for the next two weeks, Chhava is set to enjoy an extended successful run. In 2019, Vicky’s Uri collected ₹245 crore in its lifetime, but with Chhava’s unprecedented start, he is poised to enter the elite ₹300 crore club for the first time. Reports indicate that Chhava, made on a budget of approximately ₹130-150 crore, is well on its way to becoming Bollywood’s first blockbuster of 2025.
