Priyanka Bishnoi RAS Death : Priyanka Vishnoi, a 33-year-old assistant collector from Jodhpur, passed away late Wednesday night in a hospital in Ahmedabad after 13 days of treatment. She underwent surgery for a uterine condition at Vasundhara Hospital in Jodhpur on September 5, but her condition deteriorated, leading her family to transfer her to SIMS Hospital in Ahmedabad. The family has accused the doctors at Vasundhara Hospital of negligence during her treatment.

2016 Batch RAS Officer

Priyanka was an officer of the Rajasthan Administrative Service (RAS) from the 2016 batch. She had recently been transferred to the position of Deputy Commissioner of the Municipal Corporation, but she was unable to join due to her hospitalization. Her last rites will be performed in Surpura, near Phalodi, where her in-laws reside.

Hospital’s Response

Dr. Sanjay Makwana from Vasundhara Hospital stated that there were no complications related to the surgery. He explained that Priyanka had a congenital arteriovenous malformation in her brain that could leak at any time. Unfortunately, a leak occurred 24 hours after the operation, coinciding with her experiencing symptoms due to stress. A CT scan confirmed this.

According to reports, Priyanka had complained of abdominal pain, and doctors advised surgery for a uterine fibroid. She was admitted to Vasundhara Hospital on September 5, and the surgery was conducted the same evening.

Deterioration of Health

On September 6, her condition began to worsen. When there was no improvement, her family took her to SIMS Hospital in Ahmedabad on September 7, where she passed away on the night of September 18. Her family filed a complaint with the collector, alleging that she had been given excessive anesthesia or that there was excessive blood loss during the operation.

Protests and Demands for Action

On Thursday morning, members of the Vishnoi community staged a protest outside the mortuary at AIIMS, demanding an FIR against the accused doctors and hospital. A team led by DCP West Rajshree Raj Verma engaged with the protesters, explaining that the police could only file a report after the investigation team, formed per government guidelines, submitted its findings. The protest ended after approximately four and a half hours once an agreement was reached regarding the removal of her body for cremation.

Allegations of Negligence

Community representative Ramniwas Vishnoi stated that Priyanka had been taken to Vasundhara Hospital for minor discomfort, yet the doctors conducted surgery without preliminary examinations. When her condition worsened, the hospital advised discharge and transfer to another facility, but she was not discharged even after 48 hours. Subsequently, the family took her to Ahmedabad, where she died.

Call for Accountability

Ramniwas Vishnoi emphasized the community’s demand for an FIR against the hospital administration for negligence. He highlighted that the police and administration had not yet filed a case. The community visited AIIMS mortuary seeking justice, expressing frustration over the lack of a report from the committee formed by the collector four days earlier.

Complaints to Authorities

Priyanka’s father-in-law, Seiram Vishnoi, wrote to the collector requesting an investigation, alleging excessive anesthesia or blood loss during the surgery. District Collector Gaurav Agarwal directed the principal of the medical college to form a committee for an investigation and submit a report within three days. Dr. Bharti Saraswat, the principal, confirmed that the committee had been established and would start its inquiry.

Community’s Commitment to Justice

Devendra Budiya, the national president of the Vishnoi community, claimed that everything was orchestrated, urging for a CBI investigation. He called on the community to continue fighting until justice was served, to prevent similar tragedies in the future.

Formation of an Investigative Team

Dr. Bharti Saraswat announced that a team of five senior doctors had been formed as per the collector’s orders, including specialists from various departments.

Actions Pending Investigation Report

District Collector Gaurav Agarwal stated that the family had raised complaints about negligence during Priyanka’s treatment at Vasundhara Hospital. The investigative committee was expected to deliver its report within three days, after which appropriate action would be taken if negligence was confirmed.
