“Lawson has been removed indefinitely from all ministry activities,” the church stated. “The elders have met with him and will continue to pray for his personal repentance. Steve will no longer receive compensation from Trinity Bible Church of Dallas.”

Having served at Trinity since 2018, Lawson’s departure marks yet another chapter in a challenging season for North Texas churches. The elders emphasized their commitment to support him through this difficult time, stating, “We have met with Steve and will continue to pray for him, aiming for his personal repentance.” They also confirmed that he will no longer receive compensation from the church.

About Steven J Lawson

Lawson, a Texas Tech and Dallas Theological Seminary graduate, brought over three decades of pastoral experience from Arkansas and Alabama to Trinity, where he has been serving since 2018. He has also held esteemed roles with Ligonier Ministries and The Master’s Seminary.

In their full statement, the elders expressed deep regret over the situation but emphasized the enduring mission of the church: “We are all sinners, and Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. He remains the Head of His Church, which is larger than any individual.”

They reminded the congregation of the church’s foundation, built on biblical teaching, and called for prayers for everyone affected, including Lawson and his family. The elders referenced 1 Corinthians 10:12, cautioning that we must remain vigilant against the temptation to fall.

This incident adds to a troubling trend in North Texas, where at least a dozen pastors or staff members have stepped down or been dismissed this year. Among the notable cases is Robert Morris, who resigned after admitting to past sexual abuse involving a minor.

As the community processes this news, the focus is on healing and the continued mission of the church. Stay tuned for further updates on this evolving story.
