Tito Jackson, a beloved member of The Jackson 5 and brother to Michael and Janet Jackson, has passed away at the age of 70. Siggy Jackson, his nephew, confirmed the news to PEOPLE.
Tito died on Sunday, September 15, from an apparent heart attack, as first reported by Entertainment Tonight.
In the months leading up to his death, Tito was actively performing with his brothers Jackie and Marlon Jackson as The Jacksons. They had shows in Scotland, California, and England during the summer of 2024, including a recent performance in Surrey, England, on September 8. They had upcoming shows scheduled for October 25 in Atlantic City, New Jersey, and November 1 in Cincinnati, Ohio.
Earlier this week, while in Munich with The Jacksons, Tito shared on Facebook about visiting a memorial dedicated to his late brother Michael Jackson. He expressed gratitude for the tribute, saying, “Thank you for keeping his spirit alive.”
Tito Jackson Work
Tito was a founding member of The Jackson 5, which also included Michael, Jackie, Jermaine, and Marlon (later joined by Randy). The iconic group had hits like “I Want You Back,” “ABC,” and “I’ll Be There” in the ’70s. They were inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997 and received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.
In addition to his work with The Jackson 5, Tito released two solo albums: Tito Time in 2016 and Under Your Spell in 2021. He also toured globally with blues and funk music, performing with the BB King Blues Band in 2017, 2018, and 2019.
Tito had a deep love for blues music, which he spoke about in a 2021 Blues Blast magazine interview. He explained how blues sparked his interest in guitar and how he felt drawn back to performing after a break.
His last single, “Love One Another,” released in 2021, aimed to spread messages of love and unity. The music video featured family members and celebrities like Kris Jenner and Kim Kardashian. Tito’s three sons—Taj, TJ, and Taryll—were also featured, and they were part of the band 3T, which Tito managed and who appeared in the reality series The Jacksons: Next Generation.
Despite entering his 70s, Tito had no plans of slowing down. In August, he told Fox 5 San Diego, “I still love traveling and performing. It’s great.”
