After Deadly Storm Hits Kentucky

Forecast of severe storms in the US: Tornado warning in these 5 states today

Tornado Warning Issued Across Southern U.S. The National Weather Service issue tornado warnings for parts of Kentucky, Tennessee, West Virginia, and Virginia on Friday, following a deadly storm that swept through central Kentucky, leaving one person dead and injuring at least 14 others.

According to Kentucky Governor Andy Beshear, the storm – believed to be a tornado – stuck a remote area of Washington County, where three adults and a child remain hospitalized. Ten others have since been treated and released. “This level of server weather was unexpected,” Beshear said, warning of more storms on the way, particularly in Eastern and Southern Kentucky.

Local Officials, including the Washington County Sheriff’s Office, also reported that the area appeared to have been directly hit by a tornado. Judge-Executive Timothy Graves noted that two or three homes were destroyed and downed trees had temporarily blocked roads. “We were fortunate this was located in a remote part of the country, “he added.

As a result of the developing weather situation, Beshear canceled a planned visit to Pulaski and Laurel counties, which had previously suffered from a tornado earlier in the month that left 19 people dead.

A National Weather Service survey team dispatched to the area on Friday found damage consistent with at least an EF1 tornado in southern Washington County, with the damage path possibly continuing into neighboring Mercer County.

Kevin Devine, the country’s emergency management directors, confirmed that the community was caught off guard, having received no warnings of harsh weather the morning. Three of the injured were taken to the University of Kentucky Hospital in Lexington. Authorities urged residents to stay off the roads to allow emergency responders to work without interference.

Chaney himself sustained a bruise to the head. “I wish he was the one doing the video and I was still in the ICU,” he said in an emotional message shared on social media.

This marks the third outbreak of tornadoes in northern Georgia this week, with three tornadoes confirmed on both Sunday and Tuesday in areas west and northwest of Atlanta.

As of Friday evening, a tornado watch remained in effect for parts of North Carolina, Virginia, and West Virginia, as the storm system continued its path across the region.
