Vashu Bhagnani accuses Netflix of Cheating

Vashu Bhagnani accuses Netflix of Cheating : One of Bollywood’s biggest producers, Vasu Bhagnani, has filed a legal complaint against Netflix India, alleging that the OTT platform defrauded him of ₹47.37 crores under the pretext of film rights. Following the revelation of this matter, the Economic Offences Wing (EOW) of the Mumbai Police has launched an investigation.

According to a report from an agency, an EOW official stated that Bhagnani claims Netflix swindled him regarding the rights to his three recent films: Hero No. 1, Mission Raniganj, and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan. Bhagnani asserts that the streaming service was supposed to pay him ₹47.37 crores for these films, but he has yet to receive any funds.

Bhagnani is the owner of Pooja Entertainment, a production and distribution company, and he has filed a complaint against Los Gatos Productions, the entity through which Netflix invests in content in India. Meanwhile, Netflix has dismissed Bhagnani’s serious allegations, stating that they are baseless.

A spokesperson for the platform said, “In fact, Pooja Entertainment owes us money. Our partnership track record has been outstanding, and we are working to resolve this issue.”

Industry insiders are watching the situation closely, as it could set a precedent for how contracts are handled in the future. Bhagnani’s firm stance could encourage other producers to scrutinize their agreements with streaming platforms more carefully, ensuring they receive their rightful earnings. As the case unfolds, it will be interesting to see how Netflix responds to these allegations and whether it will lead to changes in their business practices to prevent similar disputes in the future. The outcome could potentially reshape the relationship between producers and streaming services, ultimately affecting how content is financed and distributed in India.

Speaking of the films involved, Mission Raniganj and Bade Miyan Chote Miyan feature Akshay Kumar. Mission Raniganj, released last year, tells the story of mining engineer Jaswant Singh Gill, while Bade Miyan Chote Miyan showcases action sequences with Akshay alongside Tiger Shroff. Both films, however, did not perform particularly well at the box office.
